Position Summary

The Lead Software Engineer for GreenLight API will provide hands-on technical leadership for Humana’s internal release-governance and deployment-certification platform for Azure DevOps pipelines.

GLAPI operates as both a product and a control plane at the intersection of software delivery, compliance, DevOps automation, and developer experience. It evaluates pipeline activity against enterprise governance rules and determines whether builds and releases satisfy required controls before deployment, particularly for production environments.

In addition, this role will help to shepherd ad-hoc requests from senior leadership from concept to implementation by providing technical guidance to the other software developers on the team.  These requests are normally classified as urgent and unplanned, so they will take precedence over any ongoing activities and have a short timeline.

This is a contract position for a senior builder who can translate governance intent into reliable, explainable, and maintainable platform capabilities while actively contributing production code, tests, automation, documentation, and operational improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead solution design and hands-on development of resilient APIs and services that integrate with Azure DevOps build and release workflows.
  • Design maintainable policy-evaluation and decisioning logic that can evolve as release-governance requirements change.
  • Design for high availability, performance, fault handling, idempotency, secure integration, and controlled failure behavior appropriate for a production deployment control plane.
  • Improve telemetry, decision tracing, correlation, diagnostics, alerting, and operational support for pipeline certification outcomes.
  • Partner with DevOps, compliance, security, audit, release-management, and application teams to translate governance needs into testable platform behavior.
  • Lead automated testing across policy logic, APIs, integrations, regression scenarios, failure paths, and deployment workflows.
  • Provide technical guidance through software design, code reviews, pairing, troubleshooting, incident learning, and mentoring.
  • Document architecture decisions, control interpretations, API contracts, operational procedures, troubleshooting paths, and change impacts.

Required Technical Qualifications

  • NET development experience 5+ years
  • API Design and implementation experience
  • Database design experience
  • SOLID Software Design principles
  • Demonstrated experience leading the design and delivery of production APIs, services, or distributed systems with high expectations for correctness and reliability.
  • Strong hands-on software engineering skills, including API design, service implementation, automated testing, source control, CI/CD, and production troubleshooting.
  • Experience integrating applications or services with Azure DevOps pipelines, build and release workflows, or comparable CI/CD platforms.
  • Experience designing maintainable business-rules, policy-evaluation, workflow-decisioning, or validation logic that changes over time.
  • Strong understanding of secure API design, identity and access patterns, resiliency, observability, versioning, backward compatibility, and failure handling.
  • Ability to translate governance and control requirements into explicit technical rules, test cases, decision records, and operational behavior.
  • Ability to communicate the basis and impact of a technical decision to engineers, product stakeholders, and control partners.

Technical Leadership and Delivery Expectations

  • Lead through implementation. Architecture and control interpretations must be validated through working software, tests, and operational evidence.
  • Protect platform correctness without making governance opaque or needlessly difficult for delivery teams.
  • Establish engineering standards through code, automated tests, deployment automation, telemetry, reusable patterns, and documentation.
  • Frame technical tradeoffs in terms of release safety, developer productivity, auditability, operational risk, and maintainability.
  • Coordinate dependencies and resolve disagreements among engineering, security, compliance, and release stakeholders using explicit requirements and evidence.
  • Act as a technical escalation point while creating shared system knowledge and avoiding single-person dependency.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with release governance, deployment certification, policy-as-code, control automation, or enterprise change controls.
  • Experience building control-plane, rules-engine, authorization, entitlement, or other trusted decisioning services.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps APIs, pipeline metadata, approvals, environments, identity groups, or deployment-stage integrations.
  • Experience designing auditable event trails and operational telemetry for decisions that affect production eligibility.
  • Experience working in a regulated or highly controlled enterprise environment
